= Radio_Etiquette = Radio Etiquette is the standard practices and band plans used on the Ham Radio bands. == Standard Modes/Terms == * Beacons - Automated transmissions * Weak Signal - Includes CW, SSB, and some digital modes. All bands 50Mhz+ have weak bands available. (See [[Modulation]]). * Satellite uplinks/downlinks - Bands for comunications with Satillites, specifically _Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio_ (OSCAR). * Simplex - Tx/Rx on some frequency. For use when not wanting to use a repeater. * Repeater input/output - For input/output to a repeater * Control links - Frequencies for control operators to control repeaters, and for repeaters to talk to each other. These are all based on a type of gentlemen's rules, and not set in stone or by law. == Repeater Etiquette == * Make short transmissions * Beginning of your transmission state your callsign - EX "W1AW standing by for call" * If accidently interrupt someone, say "sorry, {YOUR CALLSIGN} clear" * Give signal reports, common terms include - Full quieting - strong signal, no noise - White noise - some noise present - Scratchy - weaker, noise is as strong as voice - Mobile flutter/picket fencing - rapid fading - Dropping out - Breaking up - mostly unreadable * Sometimes listening on a repeaters input frequency is good, as you can meet others and talk on a simplex
