= Regulation = The FCC's Rules on Amatuer radio. == Third parties == * third party is anyone who is not a licensed operator * a ham makes 3rd party traffic by relaying messages not from a ham via ham radio * messages from hams relayed via another ham is not 3rd party * the 3rd party does not need to be present at the operating station for it to be 3rd party comms * ANY data trasmitted on behalf of someone else is 3rd party, regardless of format (digital, voice, written) * the 3rd party may participate in sending and receiving messages at the station including speaking, typing, CWing, etc * an organization can also be a 3rd party * 3rd party comms cannot be on behalf of someone with a revoked license == Prohibited comms == * fake distress signals * cussing/obscene speech * music (including background music) * encryption (except with respect to controlling a remote station) * selling of equipment on a regular basis
